Description
“A 16th-century church [designed by Diogo de Castilho], with a longitudinal plan, a rectangular chancel and a single nave lit by four windows; its ceiling was a ribbed vault, similar in architectural style to that used in the refectory of Santa Cruz de Coimbra, also designed by Diogo de Castilho; upper and lower choirs, a sacristy and a bell tower with battlements. The main Manueline portico features a round arch framed by pilasters and columns, flanked by corbels with sculptures, and at the centre the founders’ coat of arms, surmounted by a broken triangular pediment, with two crowns of thorns placed near the vertices of the triangle, and in the centre an elliptical cartouche resting on a small pedestal bearing the Keys of St Peter and the papal crown.”.
It currently belongs to the Hotel Neya and has recently undergone restoration work by the studios Projecto K and the ODD collective, involving cleaning and preservation, with the addition of a glass roof; it currently has no designated function.
